VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES!

Catholic Charities closed the doors to the Wausau Community Warming Center on April 15, 2013. We are planning to re-open our doors on November 1, 2013. Our season will run from November 1 through March 31, 2014. Many volunteers will once again be needed to have a successful year. As a reminder, volunteer opportunities are listed below. If you have any questions, you may contact Diane Borchardt at 715-849-3311. Volunteer Trainings will be posted on this page as they are scheduled.

EVENT COORDINATOR
Do you have an organization that would like to sponsor one of the nights. Please contact Diane for suggestions and more information on how we can customize this to your group. Our goal is to have an organization or church coordinate each
night of the week.

INTAKE VOLUNTEER
Welcome and check in guests. Process guests belongings. Shift runs from 8:45-10:00 pm.

OVERNIGHT VOLUNTEER
Helps create a warm and dignified environment where one is able to get help meeting their basic needs of food, shelter and connection to a greater, caring community.
Shift One - 9:30 pm - 2:00 am
Shift Two - 2:00 am - 7:00 am

FOOD PROVIDER
The Food Provider volunteer has the important task of helping meet the need for healthy food by providing guests with a modest, hot evening meal and to-go breakfast items. Food needs to be delivered to the Warming Center between 8:30 & 9:00 pm.

The Community Warming Center …
  • Will provide a clean, warm, safe environment for up to 15 adult men and women.
  • Will accept and encourage guests’ ambitions or hopes.
  • Will provide a nightly hot meal to our guests.
  • Will ensure each guest’s personal dignity, safety and respect.

Catholic Charities will operate the Center and work with United Way and other community organizations to ensure success. The Community Warming Center is an action step of the Wausau Housing and Homelessness Coalition, an initiative of United Way, that exists to collaboratively raise community awareness to end homelessness by maximizing and strengthening existing resources, developing new, relevant solutions, and creating a seamless delivery of services to end homelessness in Marathon County.

The Wausau Community Warming Center is being modeled after the La Crosse Warming Center. The following video clip is to show the important work and the need that is present in our communities!
